4-H County Events
4-H County Events is an annual competitive event. County Events are broken into 5 categories. Youth can participate in one or all five!
The categories include:
- Photography
- Illustrated Talks & Demonstration
- Public Speaking
- Graphic Design
- Share-the-Fun
Photography
Youth can submit up to 5 photos in different categories to be judged.
People- Main subject is a person.
Flora & Fauna- plants, animals, living things in nature.
Scenic- Rural landscapes, natural settings, or city scapes, etc.
Still Life- Things that are not alive.
Black and White- any subject in black and white.
Photos must be taken by the 4-H members in the current 4-H year.
Photos must be mounted on foam board and have a complete 4-H Photography Release Form.
A top overall Junior, Intermediate, and Senior will be selected from each county. These
three entries can advance to the state competition at 4-H University in August.
Graphic Design
This portion of the contest promotes 4-H projects through graphic designs.
Graphics can include, but are not limited to, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, and other promotional materials for your 4-H Project or club.
Illustrated Talks & Demonstrations
Demonstrations show and tell how to make or do something. Think about a cooking show…the host explains what they are doing, step-by-step, as they are preparing the meal. That is a great example of a demonstration.
Illustrated talks use visual aids such as posters, photos, slides, or models to share about the topic.
Demonstrations and Illustrated talks must meet the minimum time requirements.
Senior – 5-12 minutes
Intermediate & Juniors- 3-12 minutes
Senior 4-H members who are awarded a blue ribbon will advance to the state contest at 4-H University in August.

Public Speaking
Have you written a speech for school or another group that you participate in? The Public Speaking component of 4-H County Events allows youth to deliver a speech to educate the audience on a 4-H appropriate topic.
Props are not used in the public speaking portion and speakers must deliver their speeches in the time allowed.
Senior- 5-7 minutes
Intermediate & Juniors- 3-7 minutes

Share-the Fun allows 4-H members to share their talents through preforming instrumentals, vocals, dance, dramatic and novelty.
Members who participate in Share-the-Fun are required to perform for between 3-5 minutes and will provide their own props and equipment needed.
