National 4-H week (October 1-7th) celebrates the potential of young people across our nation. The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed that:
- 4-H brings “Opportunity 4 All”. Young people bring their strengths and real-world influences to improve the world around them.
Ensuring opportunities for all youth enriches their lives and celebrates their unique contributions to our world. - the message of 4-H is simple; provide opportunities for young people and their families to gain knowledge and skills to reach their full potential to improve communities and quality of life.
- 4‑H programs are delivered by the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Extension—in Florida’s 67 counties—providing experiences for young people to learn by doing. 4‑H welcomes young people of all beliefs and backgrounds, giving kids a voice to express who they are and how they make their lives and communities better.
- expanding from its strong agricultural roots, 4-H helps young people explore the world around them and grow into productive adults by promoting healthy youth development in order to give young people the capacity to act as responsible members of society and agents of change, and by understanding the complex experiences young people face and promoting high-quality youth leadership development, 4-H helps young people meet the challenges of adolescence and successfully transition to adulthood.
