Fall semester is here, which means students are back! While that may be a welcomed change, some things stay the same: Florida is still hot and there is never enough space to study. CALS students are in luck, though, because there is a newly renovated print and study lab in McCarty B!

The CALS Study/Print Lab is a place where students can collaborate and work on assignments while avoiding the hustle and bustle of the larger study areas on campus. The newly renovated space allows for social distancing and a comfortable area for students to spread out, concentrate and get work done. The room, computers and in-room printer are open to all students, but CALS students are given 250 free pages to print.

Within the space, students will find two computers connected to the campus Wi-Fi. In the center of the room a is a high-top table with two chairs is open for students to work on. The couch in the corner is paired with moveable tables, perfect for creating an area dedicated to collaboration and creative thinking. Three rolling white boards are available in the room for writing down ideas or to create barriers between spaces for more privacy. In the coming months, a “pod” chair, similar to the ones found in Newell Hall, will be added to the space for an additional private area for students to study.

The space is open each weekday year-round, with spring and fall semester times being 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and summer semester being open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A student worker will be located inside to room to help students with technical difficulties or to answer any questions. Supervisor and IT expert Wendy Williams is located across the hall to aid students if they find themselves in need of further assistance.
