Take your 4-H experience to the next level

If you’re familiar with 4-H, you’ve probably been to a 4-H Club meeting. If you are new to 4-H, feel free to check out one of our 15 clubs or contact the 4-H office at 4-h@broward.org. Being a 4-H member who attends club meetings is very rewarding. But there are even more opportunities! 4-H offers leadership, volunteer, competitive, educational, and – most importantly – fun activities all year long!

County Council

The Broward County Council is open to all 4-H club members. This is a monthly meeting for all 4-H’ers to meet together and plan special events, fundraisers, and have a lot of fun! Just like a typical 4-H club, there is a business meeting run by the officers, an education and recreation meeting. Educational meetings vary, this year we will learn about leadership, fire safety, and pollinators. There’s something for everyone! Most importantly, its a time for all of the county 4-H’ers to get to know each other. Moreover, youth learn leadership by being elected as officers. Meanwhile all in attendance learn to run a business meeting. Subsequently, the County Council plans Achievement Night, a night of recognition and awards for the accomplishments of youth and volunteers.

Broward 4-H Community Fair

The Broward 4-H Community Fair is an annual event where youth hone their communication and presentation skills. Importantly, youth give oral presentations or present displays. In addition, youth showcase art, play music and bake. Within 10 categories and over 150 subcategories 4-H’ers receive feedback from volunteer judges, win ribbons and potential prize money.

Florida 4-H Events

Have you ever wanted to tour the Capitol at Tallahassee and meet your representatives? What about taking workshops at the University of Florida? Maybe competitive events is more your thing? Enter quiz bowls on horses, forest ecology or marine life! Florida 4-H hosts events all year long. These events are a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and have fun! In addition, there is the tailgating competition (BBQ!), Leadership and Adventure Weekend, and Archery matches. Broward recently had the first Floridian compete in the National BBQ Competition in Tennessee! He won third place!

Summer camp

Spend a week at Camp Cloverleaf and make lifelong friends! Learn to kayak, swim, and sing songs by the campfire. Campers (ages 8-13) and Counselors (ages 14-17) take a break and explore the outdoors in a modern facility near Lake Placid, Florida.

Special programs

Broward 4-H hosts workshops and special events for youth and adult volunteers! For example, 4-H and Master Gardeners hosted an Art in the Garden event where families learned about pollinators and water conservation. After that families made science-inspired art pieces in the garden. A BioBlitz is a great way to learn about nature. Plus, you can collect scientific data for the local parks! A workshop for Junior Master Gardener can teach kids how to garden and be mindful of conservation.

In conclusion, check out the events at Extension Education, follow the 4-H Facebook, or email 4-h@broward.org to enhance your 4-H experience!
