May is Beef Month: This is a beautiful time to recognize the importance of the beef industry and to celebrate the farmers and ranchers who work hard every day to raise & care for cattle while preserving the land. According to the Florida Beef Council, Florida’s cattle industry is ranked 13th in overall cow numbers nationwide. We are known as a cow-calf state centered around birthing and raising calves. In 2019, the Florida Department of Agriculture reported that beef cattle sales and sales of breeding stock generated over $900 million annually. The State of Florida supplies the building blocks for commercial herds worldwide. There are about 15,000 cattle producers throughout the state of Florida. Beef is a highly consumed source of protein in the United States. The United States alone consumes 27.3 billion pounds of beef a year. When you see cattle ranchers or farmers in your area, thank them for their dedication to helping feed America and providing a great source of protein to our diets.
