International Exotic Animal Sanctuary Offering Carnivore Internship

The International Exotic Animal Sanctuary (IEAS) is home to many species of exotic animals such as tigers, bears, wolves, cougars, and bobcats. IEAS is the first Sanctuary of its kind to be certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and has become one of the country’s leading facilities for internships working with exotic animals.

IEAS is offering three month animal care internships with their carnivores. Interest in the 6 month internship can be noted on the application.

Experience Includes:

  • Safety procedures, diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, animal health, animal management, behavioral observations, enrichment, record keeping, assisting in construction and habitat modification, and related activties
  • Interns will also be involved with the volunteer program, and both formal and informal presentations. 
  • Classes led by certified instructors for CPR, Basic First Aid and Bleeding Control will be provided
  • Interns will have the opportunity to learn about animal behavior and emotions through participating in our Emotional Enrichment Program
  • Housing, vehicles and a stipend are provided
  • Please note: this is a strict no contact position

Experience Required:

  • Candidates should have at least two years of undergraduate program studies in zoology, animal management, biology, or a related field
  • International applications are welcome
  • Interns must be able to perform regular, strenuous duties in over 100 degree weather and must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • You must present yourself in a professional manner.

Applications are accepted year-round. Deadlines for each semester are outlined below:

  • Spring Session (March 1 – May 31) – January 1, 2018
  • Summer Session (June 1 – August 31) – April 1, 2018
  • Fall Session (September 1 – November 30) – July 1, 2018
  • Winter Session (December 1 – February 28) – October 1, 2018
