Beyond 4-H Clubs

The 4-H youth development program allows members to be involved in a multitude of ways by providing opportunities to participate in county, district, state and national events and contest. County events are held in the spring and give 4-H members the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a number of categories through demonstrations and illustrated talks. Along with county events, county judging teams allows members to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of animal and plant science. Both of these provide members with the opportunity to compete at the state and national levels. To participate in competitive events, 4-H members must be at least 8 years old as of September 1st.

The state 4-H youth development program also provides opportunities to its 4-H members through leadership development events such as 4-H Legislature, 4-H University, and 4-H Day at the Capitol. These events mentioned help develop youth’s leadership, citizenship and speaking skills through workshops and hands-on experiences.
