Change Lawn Practices for the Season

Changing temperatures and shortening day lengths also brings changes in lawn care practices. Even though rainfall is currently lacking, turf will not require the same frequency of water as during summer conditions. Grasses are storing food in stems and roots and not growing very much at this time of year. Routine watering may lead to stresses and decay. Look for signs of water stress in the late afternoon or feel in the soil for moisture. Also, wait until next April for any fertilizer. If you need to apply a pre emergent herbicide, you still may but skip fertilizers this late in the season.
