In January, 115 local high school students participated in the 2024 Manasota Regional Envirothon. The event brought together 23 student teams from high schools across the Sarasota-Manatee region, convening at Oscar Scherer State Park to showcase their knowledge in Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, and Current Events.

The Envirothon, an Environmental Education team competition, challenges student groups to complete five subject matter tests within a time limit. This year, UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County drafted, proctored, and graded the Aquatics test. This segment tested students’ understanding of hydrology, ecology, watershed science, and current events.

Sarasota County’s top placing team was the ‘Super Cool Awesome Team’ from Suncoast Polytechnical High School, and Manatee County’s leading team was ‘The Evergreens’ from Manatee High School.
