Registration now open for S-131 and S-215 fire trainings

Interested in expanding your wildland fire background? Registration is now open for 2 wildland fire trainings this coming June– S-131 Firefighter Type I and S-215 Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface. Register here for S-131 and here for S-215.

S-131: Firefighter Type I

When: June 18

Where: Doyle Conner Building in Gainesville

This is a National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) training course designed for individuals qualified as a Firefighter Type II seeking to be qualified as a Firefighter Type I. This course is interactive in nature, containing several tactical decision games designed to facilitate learning and class discussion. Some of the topics discussed include tactical decision making, fireline reference materials, and communication on the fireline. This training costs $75 and registration closes on May 21st, or when capacity is reached.

S-215: Fire Operations in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI)

When: June 19 & 20

Where: Doyle Conner Building in Gainesville

Participants at S-215 training in Gainesville.This is also a National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) training course that is designed for individuals currently qualified as a Firefighter Type I (yes, S-131 is a mandatory prerequisite for this training) with knowledge of their agency firefighting policy as it relates to fires in the WUI. This course is available for structure and wildland firefighters alike who will be making tactical decisions when confronting wildland fire that threatens life, property, and improvements. Topics include structure triage, size-up, firefighter safety in the interface, and follow-up and public relations. This training costs $100 and registration closes on May 21st, or when capacity is reached.
