Managing Unwanted Plants; CEU Class, Chipley 6/11/26

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, UF/IFAS Extension Washington County will host Managing Unwanted Plants in Rights of Way and Aquatic Sites. The class has been approved for a total of 4 FL Pesticide Applicator CEUs. The CEUs may be used for license renewal in any of the categories listed below. The class is open to all, but the agenda is tailored for licensed pesticide applicators seeking CEUs for license renewal.

Ornamental and Turf Pest Control

 

The class will be held at the Washington County Agricultural Center (1424 Jackson Ave., Chipley, FL). Sign-in will begin at 7:30 AM, teaching will start at 8:00 and conclude shortly before noon. There is a $25 fee for the class, payable in advance online (link below) or at the door. Checks only at the door, no cash. Light refreshments will be provided. 7:30 – 8:00 Sign-In
8:00 – 8:50 – “Selecting the Right Herbicide for the Job” A discussion of common right-of-way and aquatic herbicide products, focusing on what types of plants they control, how they enter plants, and how they should be delivered with the ultimate goal of identifying if a product would or would not be appropriate to use in specific situations.
8:50 – 9:00 – Break
 9:00 – 10:40 – “Identification of Right-of-Way and Aquatic Plants” A two-part presentation beginning with a session focusing on how to recognize, and the nomenclature associated with, key botanical features used to identify plants followed by a session on the identification of terrestrial and aquatic plants utilizing live specimens and images.
10:40 -10:50 – Break
10:50 – 11:40 – “Managing Weedy/Invasive Grasses” Specific herbicide strategies for managing unwanted grasses (cogongrass, vaseygrass, road-grass, tropedograss, etc.) which frequently present problems in rights-of-way and/or aquatic sites.
11:40 – 11:50 – Distribute CEU forms, Adjourn
