The Power of Volunteers: Making a Difference Through Extension

Lady in garden hat holding carrotsVolunteers are at the heart of UF/IFAS Extension Taylor County. They give their time, share their knowledge and step forward when help is needed. While much of their work happens quietly behind the scenes, their collective impact can be seen throughout our community.

During a program year, Taylor County Extension volunteers contributed more than 6,706 hours of service, representing approximately $223,623 in donated community service value. Those numbers demonstrate the tremendous economic contribution volunteers make to Taylor County, but their true value goes far beyond dollars and hours.

Extension volunteers serve our community in countless ways. The Master Gardener Volunteers answer gardening questions and share sustainable landscaping practices. Volunteers with 4HMan showing child how to hold a bow mentor young people, lead 4-H activities, and encourage youth to build confidence and leadership skills. They support marine education, conservation, water-quality efforts and projects that help protect our coastal resources. Volunteers also assist with nutrition and healthy living education, community events and the Weekend Food Backpack Program, helping provide food for local students to take home between Friday and Monday.

Although their roles may be different, every volunteer is working toward the same goal: making Taylor County stronger through service.

Ladies working in food pantryEvery gardening question answered, every young person encouraged, every backpack packed, every educational program supported and every effort to protect our natural resources represents someone who chose to give one of their most valuable resources—their time.

Some acts of service are highly visible. Others happen quietly, week after week. But every one of them matters.

Our volunteers help Extension take research-based education and resources beyond the walls of our office and into theVolunteer in scuba gear underwater, writing on a chart community. Their knowledge, compassion and willingness to serve allow us to reach more people and make a greater difference.

Your service is valued. Your impact is lasting. And Taylor County is stronger because of you. Thank you for all you do.
