Cheesecake Cupcakes take Home the Giant Golden Spoon

The 11th Annual Holiday Bake-Off brought out 111 entries by 62 different youth participants! It was great to see the enthusiasm and creativity of Suwannee County 4-H members. The Holiday Bake-Off exists to encourage youth and adults to work together on a project. Unlike traditional 4-H projects/contests where youth must do all the work themselves, this annual contest strongly encourages the adults to work with the youth to complete their delicious entries.

Golden Spoon Winners

On Monday December 10, 2018, twenty one judges from across the local community entered Exhibition II on Suwannee County Fairgrounds to taste, discuss, and decide on the best in 12 different categories. Each winner received a Golden Spoon award, and then from those 12 categories, an overall best in show was chosen. That overall best in show winner was also the recipient of the coveted Giant Golden Spoon. Cloverbuds, youth aged 5-7 years old, were also able to enter and received miniature golden spoons for their participation.

Taylor Clement, of the Suwannee Young Riders, secured the Giant Golden Spoon by dazzling the judges with her cheesecake cupcakes made to resemble Santa’s hat with a strawberry topping off each cupcake. Below are each of the category winners and the 4-H Club that they’re in:

Special thanks to all the judges from the community for taking time out of your schedules to support the youth in Suwannee County. Be on the lookout to see how Suwannee County 4-H members do in the upcoming County Event contests.

Giving Back

Suwannee County 4-H Agent, Derby Sale, stands happily with Martha Wood, Executive Director of Love INC, after dropping off the donated goodies from the Holiday Bake-Off.

With community service being a critical component of 4-H, participants of the Holiday Bake-Off were encouraged to bring gifts to donate to Love INC. Through those efforts, about 30 gifts were donated. At the end of the evening, all the food is packaged up and also given to Love INC to bring a little joy to those who may need it during the holiday season.

For any Holiday Bake-Off participants, don’t forget that you can create a record book based off your experiences during this year’s competition. It can be turned in with all other record books near the end of the spring.
