Meet St. Lucie County’s Newest Natural Resource Agent

Hi there! My name is Bridget Gerovac, and I am the new Natural Resource Agent here at UF/IFAS Extension St. Lucie County. I thought it might be nice to take some time to introduce myself.

Growing up in a military family, I found myself having the opportunity to explore various landscapes throughout the US. I have clear memories of becoming a Junior Park Ranger at Yellowstone National Park! In 2016, right after college, I moved to the Treasure Coast thanks to encouragement from family that was already living here. I’ve attempted to leave a few times since, but there’s something about the richness of the ecosystems we have right here that always seems to draw me back home.

I spent a number of years working for local non-profits focused on addressing the water quality concerns with the Indian River Lagoon. This work allowed me to get to know local residents and fishing clubs. All who have the same goal of improving our local ecosystems. I also worked on various habitat restoration projects in Florida that focus on stabilizing shorelines, improving water quality, and supporting one of Florida’s most iconic gentle giants—the manatee. That work eventually led to one of the most unforgettable experiences of my career. While working for the State of Florida, I got to assist with manatee rescues and participate in manatee health surveys! All this to say, I have had incredible opportunities that have helped me gain knowledge that I am excited to share with my community.

When I’m not in the office, I’m most likely outside either on the water or with my dog. I am a PADI certified Open Water Diver. I love any chance I get to look at our incredible aquatic habitats. I enjoy fishing and backpacking, always eager for the next adventure! As an avid outdoorsman, I am continuously in awe of what nature has to offer and all that we can learn.

As I settle into my new role as an Extension Agent here in St. Lucie County, I am thrilled to begin planning classes and workshops focused on improving local water quality and living cohesively with nature. More importantly, I am eager to learn more about your areas of interest and how I can best serve my community. Please feel free to reach out with any questions at bgerovac@ufl.edu!
