What is the the Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest?

flyer with more information on the 2022 youth speech contest. Every year, the Florida Farm Bureau hosts a statewide Youth Speech Contest. This contest starts at the county level. Winners of the county competition advance to district, and then potentially, state. This speech competition is a wonderful way for youth to gain an understanding of Florida agriculture, develop their communication skills, and potentially win prizes!

This year youth ages 14-18 are asked to answer the prompt, “In addition to food and fiber, what other positive impacts in your local community can be attributed to agriculture?”

Youth should prepare a speech in response to the prompt that is 5 minutes in length.

What are the prizes?

First – $500

Second – $200

Third – $150

Winners also have the potential to win additional prizes at the district and state level.

When is the Seminole County contest?

The Youth Speech Contest will be held on Thursday, August 18th, 2022 at 6:30PM at the Seminole County Extension Center (250 W County Home Rd, Sanford, FL, 32773). Winners will be invited to compete at the district contest held later that week.

How do you sign up?

The Youth Speech Contest registration form can be found online. Registration deadline is August 16th by 5:00PM to participate in the county competition

What are the requirements?

  • Must be 14-18 years of age as of September 9, 2022
  • Must reside in Seminole County.
  • The competitor must prepare and present the speech personally.
  • The competitor is not permitted to use any visual aids such as a PowerPoint presentation or poster.
  • Speeches must be 5 minutes in length +/- 30 seconds.
