2017 Miss United States Agriculture- Emily Lightner

Econ Livestock 4-H Clubs, Senior Member, Emily Lightner recently participated in the 2017 Miss United States Agriculture Competition. The purpose of the competition is to share about your state’s agriculture. Emily represented Florida and won the 2017 People’s Choice Award for 2017 Miss United States Agriculture and will represent Florida at National’s on June 24th.

Seminole County 4-H has had the pleasure of working with Ms. Lightner over the last 9 years through her involvement in the County’s 4-H Youth Development Program. Her passion for the agriculture industry is apparent through her involvement in various projects and competitions throughout her 4-H career. Emily has shown great drive and passion for the agriculture industry. In 2011, she started her own show pig business with the goal of producing quality show pigs for 4-H and FFA members at a reasonable price. Through her involvement in 4-H she has participated several times in The University of Florida’s 4-H Hog and Ham Program. In this program Emily learned the total process of pork production from beginning to end. Youth in the Hog and Ham Program learn harvesting techniques, cuts of meat, and curing methods. Additionally, Emily is involved in the 2017-2018 Central Florida 4-H Citrus Tree Contest. This contest includes learning about the Florida citrus industry, types of citrus, marketing techniques, and growing a citrus tree that will be auctioned next spring. In addition to her 4-H projects, Emily has developed leadership through serving as her club’s president.

Emily is a fantastic role model for the youth in Seminole County 4-H. We wish Emily the best as she represents and shares a very important message about the treasure of Florida’s agriculture! You can learn more about Miss United States Agriculture- Emily Lightner here
