Sarasota County Green Business Partners: A look back – 2008

Sarasota County Green Business Partnership logoOn Jan. 19, 2006, Dave’s Auto Repair became the first Sarasota County Green Business Partner. Join us in this blog series over the next several months as we highlight our partners by looking back over the past 15 years of this fantastic partnership!

  • atLarge, Inc.
    atLarge is an online media company that has integrated environmental stewardship into its business model since its inception.
  • Home Front Homes LLC.
    Home Front Homes LLC is a builder that uses an innovative panelized construction system to create energy-efficient homes. As a practice, they handle their waste more effectively and ensuring that they conduct their business in a manner that reflects the environmental benefits of the product they manufacture.
  • Sun Hydraulics Corporation
    Sun Hydraulics has a comprehensive recycling program that includes metal shavings from its milling process, and its stormwater pollution prevention measures ensure the protection of the pond adjacent to its property.
  • Jackson Hewitt Technology Services, Inc.
    The company’s Sarasota office has used the Green Business Partnership Program as its framework for enhancing its environmental performance. The firm has instituted a comprehensive recycling program and sought ways to reduce its energy consumption. “Green” issues are a daily topic at staff meetings and in company newsletters.
  • Bee Ridge Lighting & Design
    As a Green Business Partner, some of Bee Ridge Lighting and Design’s efforts include: using recycled content file folders and envelopes, using energy efficient 3W bulbs in display fixtures and using lighting controls such as occupancy sensors, photocells or time clocks.
  • Ray Cordy Custom Painting, Inc.
    The company uses environmentally friendly paints, reusable rags and drop cloths and a solar water heater. Overall, the company works to ensure that environmental factors are considered in all phases.
  • The Resort at Longboat Key Club
    Longboat Key Club and Resort is Sarasota’s first resort to gain certification in the Green Business Partnership. The club has provided the management leadership and invested the resources and time necessary to implement environmental measures from the basis to the state-of-the-art.
  • Calloway European Automotive, Inc.
    Calloway specializes in the service and repair of high-performance European vehicles like BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi and Volkswagen. The company has a strong philosophy of minimizing its environmental impact. It switched to a detergent-based parts cleaning solution and aggressively recycles.
  • John Cannon Homes / John Cannon Construction, Inc.
    John Cannon is one of the area’s premier luxury home builders. They have implemented a company-wide environmental policy with specific standards for recycling and energy and water conservation.
  • Coppola Realty Group
    It has a comprehensive recycling program and has implemented measures to reduce waste by replacing Styrofoam cups with reusable mugs and used office furniture. To reduce energy use, they’ve applied window tint, set thermostats to 82 degrees and minimized the number of lights used for nighttime security.
  • Children’s World
    Children’s World is proud to be a Green Business Partner. Since joining the program, Children’s World has engaged its staff to implement a vigorous recycling program by reusing as many items in creative ways as possible. It has also installed additional insulation, high-efficiency air-conditioning units, solar window film, high-efficiency lighting, light timers, automatic shutoff water faucets, and more.
  • REMAX Corporate
    The company is comprised of more than 400 agents in 12 offices serving Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte counties, and ranks first in the state among all RE/MAX offices. Twenty-eight agents specialize in certified green homes and builders.
  • ECO Hair Design
    ECO Hair demonstrates how any type of business can find ways to minimize its environmental impact. ECO reduced their energy consumption by 40 percent, replaced all hair dyes and shampoos with organic,and environmentally friendly alternatives.
  • NaturZone Pest Control
    NaturZone is dedicated to human and environmental safety, offering safe, effective and convenient commercial and residential pest management. The company places odorless, non-allergenic, long-lasting and minimally toxic products in insect feeding and breeding areas.
  • Kerkering, Barberio & Co., P.A.
    The company implemented a comprehensive recycling program throughout its 30,000 square-foot office and worked with its property management company to increase the facility’s energy efficiency
  • Vista Systems, LLC
    Vista is an international firm that manufactures an array of sign products. Vista not only recycles paper, cans and cardboard, it also recycles plastic residue from their production line and reuses packing materials.
  • Waste Management, Inc.
    Waste Management is Sarasota County’s contracted waste hauler. It has a comprehensive recycling program with a high level of staff participation and ensures staff is trained to conduct business in a way that minimizes the environmental impact.
  • Polaris Property Mgt Inc.
    The company produces virtually no waste, recycling every scrap of paper, reusing paper and binders, even recycling paper clips. Along with these measures and aggressive energy conservation measures, Polaris is not only conserving resources, but reducing their bottom line as well.
  • FETCH! Pet Care
    FETCH! has a comprehensive recycling program, a zero-water Florida-friendly landscape and initiated a cost-effective means to reduce the environmental impact their customers’ dogs’ waste by providing biodegradable collection bags.
  • Kimley-Horn and Associates
    The company has implemented several Green Business measures to reduce its environmental impacts and concurrently save money. The company used its internal company website to reduce its waste stream and integrated its environmental policies its news orientation program.
  • Visit Sarasota County
    Visit Sarasota County enthusiastically embraced the principles of the Green Business Partnership. It enhanced its office recycling efforts, identified ways to reduce waste by more effectively estimating the quantities of brochures needed for printing and by relying on electronic copies of documents, instead of paper copies.
  • TPC Prestancia Golf Club
    The Tournament Players Club at Prestancia worked for eight months to implement Green Business Partnership standards and achieve certification. They have reduced energy consumption by using compact fluorescent bulbs, and encourage carpooling in partnership with Commuter Services of Florida.
  • Economic Development Corp of Sarasota County
    The EDC established a green team and used GBP standards to develop their green office policy. They implemented a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling program, met with their property management to ensure the landscaping and utilities met GBP standards, and have integrated their environmental expectations into their new employee orientation program.
  • Captain Curt’s Crab & Oyster Bar
    This popular Siesta Key seafood restaurant has instituted comprehensive recycling, energy and water conservation measures. Eco-friendly to go containers are provided to patrons.
  • Accent Distributing, Inc.
    3M Window Films reduce up to 99 percent of the sun’s ultraviolet rays and reject up to 79 percent of the solar heat that may otherwise come through a window.
  • Jon F. Swift, Inc.
    The company has incorporated environmental stewardship into all phases of its business. It has a comprehensive recycling program and reused light fixtures from a demolition project in its own building.
