Tips from this episode:
- Almost all vegetables can be grown in containers.
- Some vegetables that are suitable for container gardening include herbs, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, bush beans, squash, lettuce, and onions.
- Be sure pots get at least 6 hours of full sun for vegetables.
- You can also mix different vegetables in the same container. Try grouping plants with similar water needs such as spinach and beans or potatoes and squash.
- Consider the height of different vegetables to avoid taller plants shading out smaller plants.
- Tall vegetable plants include trellised tomatoes, okra, corn, trellised squash, and trellised beans.
- Medium height vegetables include collards, Swiss chard, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, eggplant, basil, rosemary, celery, and garlic.
- Shorter plants include thyme, oregano, strawberries, lettuce, onions, radish, carrots, and vining crops that are not trellised.
