The 4-H Program is rapidly moving into the busiest time of the year. Here is a summary of the major state and county events:
- Florida State Fair at the Tampa Fairgrounds will feature 4-H on both Saturdays. 4-H members get in free with their membership card or 4-H t-shirt. February 8 is the 4-H Showcase. 4-H groups can set up a display or conduct activities. Members can also sign up for demonstrations, public speaking, or Share the Fun Acts. Any 4-H member, group, or club can register to perform or have an exhibit by registering on this link: http://2014showcase4h.eventbrite.com .
Next up is a combination of two events – 4-H Night of the Arts and the Pinellas Country Fair Kick-Off. This year Night of the Arts will take place March 21 at 7:00p.m. at the Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center located next to England Brothers Park. All Pinellas 4-H members are welcome to enter to share their musical, theatrical, humorous, or just plain fun talents. There will be a photography exhibit of the entries of the 4-H Photography Contest.
- The Pinellas Country Fair Kick-Off will begin with Night of the Arts and continue the next day, March 22. This day will feature 4-H and youth. The highlights will be the dog, poultry, and rabbit shows. In addition, there are plan to have horses and goats. The shows will be educational and fun. The originally planned Pinellas Country Fair will now take place in October.
- Third Executive Board is a state event for all 4-H seniors. It starts February 28 and is located at Camp Ocala. This is a leadership event teaching teens to be part of the process of 4-H planning and how to use leadership skills in their lives.
- Demonstration Day is April 5 and will take place at Ridgecrest Elementary School in Largo. This event is a gathering of the county 4-H’ers as they present their project demonstrations for ribbons and the chance to advance to District Events.
