Let’s Walk Florida is Coming to Pasco County!

We all know by now that living a sedentary lifestyle is not healthy. Countless studies show its association with obesity, cancer, and other chronic conditions. But many of us may not know how to begin an active lifestyle. Luckily, it’s easy! As long as you are getting more movement into your day, you can see the benefits. To help people start off on their fitness journey, Pasco County Extension will be doing a walking program called Let’s Walk Florida. It is a 12 week walking program where people keep track of their walking times and then report to the Extension office to win prizes at the end of the 12 weeks! You can walk solo or in teams of 5. There are three different tracks to choose from, depending on your fitness goals:

  • Health-starting at less than 30 minutes a day
  • Fitness-starting at about 30 minutes a day
  • Performance-starting at more than 30 minutes a day, several days a week

Add ten minutes a week, each week of the program, until you reach your goal.

However, any physical activity can count towards the overall minutes. So if you rode a bike, jogged, etc., you can log those minutes as well. It’s all about getting more movement in your day!

To jump start the 12 week program, there will be a kickoff event on Tuesday, July 30th at the Land O Lakes Heritage Park: 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd Land O Lakes, FL 34639

July 30th will also be when you officially track your times to report your minutes. Attending the kickoff event is not mandatory. You will receive reminder emails to submit your weekly minutes.

Registration is $10, and you have the option to purchase a Let’s Walk Florida T-shirt for $10. Please register and learn more on Event Brite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/7-30-19-lets-walk-florida-tickets-64202531500?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
