Education and Industry–FNGLA Action Chapter 2/8/22 Event on Alternatives to Glyphosate

Horticulture is HUGE in Florida, and FNGLA is the oldest and largest association targeting the needs of the environmental horticulture industry in Florida. FNGLA stands for the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association. With a whopping industry value exceeding $20 billion, it is no surprise there is a place for growers to come together to learn and to communicate issues facing the industry at large.

The FNGLA Action Chapter is the local platform to build your professional network. There are events and social gatherings, and your local Chapter wanted to make sure anyone in the industry is aware and invited to the upcoming meeting about ongoing research in alternative herbicides to glyphosate.

WHO: Growers, landscape contractors, horticulture industry

Glyphosate has been a go-to for growers since 1974. Despite maintaining the US EPA registered pesticide label, the chemical is involved in pending lawsuits. Learning updates and alternatives will keep your growing business on the cutting edge.

Chris Marble, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Ornamental and Landscape Invasive Weed Management with the University of Florida Mid-Florida Research and Education Center, will be discussing his ongoing research in alternative herbicides to glyphosate and UF’s research in that area. This presentation will cover the latest research on alternative herbicides to glyphosate labeled for use in landscapes. Information on the different options available, efficacy, and costs associated with these herbicides will be discussed. The presentation will also cover how the use of preemergence herbicides can reduce spot spraying and decrease overall maintenance costs.

This educational program is a must attend event for growers and landscape contractors as you need to know what your options are so you can plan for the future of your operations.  Not only will Dr. Marble be available for questions after his presentation, but we will have representatives from PBI Gordon, Syngenta, OHP, Nufarms America, and Contact Organics that will be available to provide input and guidance. You will receive 1 CEU from FDACS for attending this program.

Sign in and badge pick-up will start at 5:00 pm, with dinner and the program starting at 5:30. Please go to FNGLA.org > About FNGLA > Chapters > Action Chapter > Events to register.  We expect to have limited seating for this event, so please register early.

Growers, this is your place to vocalize challenges, learn solutions, and represent the needs of your industry! Perhaps some of you are new to the industry and would like to get more involved? Check out FNGLA.
