Programs, Meetings Postponed or Cancelled — COVID-19

Out of an abundance of caution to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, we have cancelled or postponed many of our classes, workshops and other activities until May 1st. We are still in the process of evaluating our current schedule but we are making efforts to avoid group situations. We encourage all of you to remain safe, maintain social distance and follow us on Facebook and other social media sites:

Our volunteers who staff our Plant Clinics are at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19 because of their age or because many may have serious long-term health issues. To reduce their risk of getting sick from the disease, Plant Clinics at Orange County Extension Education Center, Mid-Florida Research and Education Center and Harry P. Leu Gardens are closed for walk-in consultations until the week of May 4th. Soil pH testing at these offices is also cancelled until the week of May 4th.

Homeowners may send soil samples to the University of Florida Soils Laboratory or pH testing and soil nutrient testing. Cost of this test is $10.00 and homeowners will be contacted by e-mail in about two weeks. Get a copy of the form at http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/SS/SS18700.pdf, and follow the instructions on page 2.

The Plant Clinic at the Orange County Extension Education Center will continue to answer homeowner questions on the telephone (407) 254-9200. Any requested University of Florida publications will be mailed.

The Exploration Gardens will remain open daily from 8:00am to Sunset for self-guided tours. All group tours are cancelled until May 1st.

Residents may e-mail their health and wellness, food safety, housing and finance, lawn, landscape, and gardening questions (with pictures) to orange@ifas.ufl.edu. Residents should expect a response within the next business day.

Stay safe.
