Not every fruit tree will grow and reliably produce fruit in our area. It’s wise to do your homework before purchasing and planting just any fruit tree in North Florida.
Weather is the most important factor determining where certain fruits can be grown. It’s the reason why apple and blueberry don’t do well in South Florida and why exotic tropical fruits such as papaya or mango don’t grow well in North Florida.
To be successful with fruit production in North Florida, a person needs to ask a lot of questions before planting the first plant. Which varieties grow well here? How much care is needed to grow this type of fruit? Do I have time to devote to pruning, spraying, and fertilizing? Home Fruit Gardening 101 will help answer these questions.
I will provide a two-hour seminar titled Home Fruit Gardening 101 on Thursday, January 30, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the UF/IFAS Extension Office in Crestview. The address is 3098 Airport Road in Crestview, FL. Please use the registration form below to register or call (850) 689-5850. Space is limited.
