Okaloosa County Extension Agents Embark on New Semester in DPM Program

As the University of Florida classes began last week, two of our Extension Agents prepared for their academic semester ahead.

Jennifer Bearden, UF/IFAS Extension Okaloosa County’s Agricultural Agent, and Sheila Dunning, UF/IFAS Extension Okaloosa County’s Commercial Horticulture Agent are pursuing a Doctor of Plant Medicine (DPM) degree at the University of Florida.

The DPM program is housed in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and includes 6 departments: Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Nematology, Environmental Horticulture, Horticultural Sciences, and Soil and Water Science. This program also includes the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatic Sciences. The DPM program is a diverse learning experience with application across a variety of careers such as diagnostician, crop consultants, plant inspectors, survey specialists, regulatory scientists, Extension specialists, private industry consultants, small business owners, applied research specialists, managers, or other plant health professions (https://dpm.ifas.ufl.edu/).

We excitedly support Jennifer and Sheila in this endeavor! The knowledge and experience they will gain will create impact in providing more educational opportunities for our Okaloosa County community.
