Who Are You Going to Nominate for a Superior Accomplishment Award?

I was happy to learn last month that for the third consecutive year, the University of Florida has climbed the ranks of the nation’s public universities, and is now #7 in the U.S. News & World Report list of Top Public Schools.

I was happy to learn it, but not surprised. I can look around me I can see why UF is a top-ranked school—it’s because we have such outstanding people. That’s especially true in UF/IFAS units across the state of Florida. Few institutions, let alone universities, can rival the extraordinary depth and reach of the teaching, research, and Extension work that IFAS does, or the extraordinary people who accomplish that work, each and every day.

That’s why the annual Superior Accomplishment Awards is one of the most important employee recognition programs UF has to offer. It’s an all-inclusive program that recognizes the meritorious service of faculty and staff of all job descriptions, wherever you work in Florida.

There are categories for clerical, support services, administrative, and academic personnel, as well as special categories for people who perform exceptional community service or promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Nominations are open for all academic personnel, TEAMS employees, USPS staff members or University-affiliated DSO employees, except those at the department chair or director level and above.

Award recipients in the UF/IFAS division will be honored at a ceremony in the spring. They’ll each receive cash awards of $200, and will be eligible to compete for University-level awards, which offer $1,000-2,000 cash awards.

Last year, 22 members of the UF/IFAS family received Superior Accomplishment Awards, five of whom went on to receive University-level awards. That speaks to the impressive nature of UF/IFAS’ talent pool.

Nominating a co-worker for a Superior Accomplishment Award is a great way of saying you care about the work they do. It’s also a way to recognize the quality of performance in your unit and tell the UF/IFAS story.

Over the past academic year (August 1, 2018-July 31, 2019) UF/IFAS has faced extraordinary challenges, as well as growth, transition and achievements. Over that period, think of the people who worked to solve a difficult problem, played a key role on an important project, developed an innovation that saved time or money, stepped up to help in a time of change or crisis, performed exceptional service to their communities, or promoted diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

If you know someone like that, why not share your appreciation by going to the Superior Accomplishment Award website at http://tinyurl.com/saa20 for nomination forms, guidelines and tips for nominations.
