One poorly maintained tree can cause thousands of dollars in damage during a hurricane, leaving homes and neighborhoods devastated.
On July 23, University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is hosting “Be ready, be safe! A Hurricane Preparation Workshop” in Homestead to equip landscape professionals, arborists, homeowners’ association leaders, property managers and residents with science-backed guidelines to minimize risks before severe weather arrives.
Participants will learn how to prepare trees and landscapes for severe weather, identify and reduce potential hazards and make informed decisions about landscape management that can help lessen the impacts of hurricanes on homes, businesses and community spaces. UF/IFAS commercial and residential urban horticulture experts will also cover lessons learned from previous hurricanes. Registration is required.

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: UF/IFAS Extension Miami-Dade County, 18710 SW 288 St., Homestead.
Cost: $15, with breakfast included. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available for licensed arborists, landscape inspectors, code enforcement professionals and landscapers.
