Extension dropbox, online services offer solutions to consumer concerns

DAVIE, Fla. – Unique times call for unique measures. In lieu of the CDC’s recommendations to practice social distancing against COVID-19 spread, UF/IFAS Extension Broward has developed new approaches to providing continued services.

Need to identify if there is an invasive plant in your garden? Not sure if your nursery is experiencing a pest problem? Perhaps your lawn or trees are showing signs of something unfamiliar to you a disease. You can now submit your samples to extension agents through a drop box or an email with this online form https://tinyurl.com/ugzxf69

UF/IFAS Extension Broward has two programs that serve two different populations:

  • Urban Horticulture Program for residents and homeowners
  • Commercial Horticulture Program for landscapers and growers

In 2019, agents for both programs combined provided more than 800 walk-ins with assistance in plant identification, plant disease diagnosis, pest solutions, turf challenges, and gardening problems. By submitting samples, agents were able to identify, provide science-based solutions, and help with mitigating a variety of horticulture challenges.

To submit via email, submit photos and details to broward@ifas.ufl.edu. For those who prefer to leave a sample, a drop box option has been arranged outside of the extension office located at 3245 College Avenue, Davie, FL 33314.

Please fill out the form located adjacent to the bin between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Agents will provide results in a timely fashion with a phone call or an email.
