GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mary Ann Gosa has been hired as the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences’ director of governmental relations. Her appointment becomes effective November 14.

Gosa is currently director of government and community affairs for the Florida Farm Bureau Federation, a position she’s held since 2005. In that job, she is a liaison between Farm Bureau members, state and federal agencies, legislators and local governments.

She has been with the Florida Farm Bureau Federation staff since 1996 and, until 2005, was assistant director of government and community affairs.

Her areas of expertise include water, land use, growth management, environmental relations and endangered species.

Before joining the Farm Bureau, Gosa was a legislative assistant to state Rep. Bert Harris Jr., D-Lake Placid, from 1989 until 1995, managing legislation, tracking it from committee to final vote, writing speeches and handling constituent inquiries and problems, among other duties.

From 1988-1989, she was an assistant to state Sen. Don Childers, D-West Palm Beach, handling similar duties.

Gosa, a 1987 UF public relations graduate, is an Alachua County Soil & Water Conservation District supervisor, the former legislative chair of Florida Cattlewomen and was the 2002 chairman of the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s agriculture advisory committee.

Gosa replaces Cindy Littlejohn, IFAS’ governmental relations director since January 2001, who is leaving to join Littlejohn, Mann and Associates in Tallahassee.
