FORT PIERCE, FLA. — The Florida Phytopathological Society (FPS) will hold its eighth biennial meeting May 5-7 at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Horticultural Research Laboratory and the University of Florida’s Indian River Research and Education Center in Fort Pierce.
Pete Timmer, a professor at UF’s Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred and president of the society, said the organization was formed in 1989 to maintain and renew contacts, exchange news, views and information with other plant pathologists in the state on a regular basis. The Lake Alfred and Fort Pierce research and education centers are part of UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
“We have an exciting meeting planned and hope scientists, industrialists and other interested personnel from around the state will be able to attend,” he said. “There will be a full day of sessions on Tuesday followed by an evening at Adam’s Ranch, well known for its ‘eco-friendly’ cattle ranching practices. There also will be a half-day of sessions again on Wednesday.”
Scientists are invited to present their research results during the planned concurrent sessions. Scientists should contact Timmer or the organizer of the session in which they would like to present their research results.
