“Hands to Larger Service” in action!
Back in December, our Teen Leadership Council (TLC) applied for a Community Pride Grant and proposed a service project called *Green Spaces for Good*. The goal of the project was to partner with community organizations across Nassau County by gifting plant boxes filled with Florida-friendly plants to brighten and enhance local spaces. Before beginning the project, TLC connected with our Nassau County Extension Master Gardeners to learn more about selecting plants that would work best for each location. In early February, TLC was awarded $1,203 in grant funding to bring its vision to life. From February through May, our teens worked together to coordinate with community organizations and successfully place seven plant boxes throughout Nassau County. Along the way, youth also gained hands-on leadership experience by managing the grant budget, preparing a media plan, and completing a final report. On June 1st, TLC will submit their final report using SMART goals to highlight the outcomes and impact of the project. Their grant project will then be judged at the State 4-H level alongside other Community Pride projects from across Florida for a service award. If selected, our youth will be recognized at 4-H University in July. Fingers crossed for our amazing teens!
A huge thank you to our community partners for allowing us to place plant boxes at your facilities, impacting over 1,118 people who will see the project regularly!
