Over the past few months, the Nassau County 4-H Teen Leadership Council has been busy planning, leading, and giving back to our community. From mentoring younger members to developing new programs and service projects, our teens have been working together to make a positive impact across the county.

November–December: Learning to Lead and Serve
During November and December, our council focused on preparing to support the new Intermediate Leadership Council. Teen members created and organized life skills activities for the intermediate group’s first meeting and participated in a mentorship training to help us become stronger leaders and role models. This helped us learn how to guide younger youth, communicate effectively, and lead with confidence. Service was also a big priority. Our council worked together to write and submit a 4-H Community Pride grant proposal to the Florida 4-H Foundation for a project called Green Spaces for Good. The goal of this project is to restore native plants in our community while teaching others about environmental stewardship. We plan to build native plant garden boxes and place them in public spaces around the county. Each box will include signs explaining what plants are included and why native plants are important.

January–February: Turning Ideas into Action
At the start of the new year, we were excited to see our plans come to life. Teen leaders helped facilitate the first Intermediate Leadership Council meeting, where six new members joined and began planning their own countywide service project. It was a great opportunity for teens to practice leadership and support younger 4-H members. We also received exciting news that our Community Pride grant was fully funded at $970.56. We are now working to connect with local organizations and identify locations where our native plant garden boxes can be installed. Looking ahead, our council is already preparing for summer. In upcoming meetings, we will begin planning our Lil’ Leaders Day Camp, a program for youth ages 5–10 that focuses on teamwork, confidence, and learning how to be a good leader.
