Weeds pose a persistent challenge in nurseries and greenhouses, making weed management and control crucial components of such operations. To help professionals master weed management, the UF/IFAS Environmental Horticulture Department’s Greenhouse Training Online program is offering an intermediate-level course focused on weed control.
Taught by Chris Marble, associate professor of ornamental and landscape weed management, the Weed Management course provides in-depth strategies for effective weed control in commercial greenhouses and nurseries. Participants will learn how to:
- Manage all aspects of weed management, including identifying weeds, developing herbicide programs and implementing the latest non-chemical weed control methods,
- Identify the factors that influence weed growth and herbicide performance,
- Select the best herbicides for specific weeds found in their nurseries and greenhouses,
- Accurately calibrate sprayers and granular application equipment to minimize crop damage, and
- Reduce the need for hand weeding and cut herbicide costs.
Running from Oct. 14 to Nov. 8, the course costs $275 and is available in both English and Spanish. It is fully online, with all materials available at any time of day. This course is part of the Plant Health Professional Certificate, designed to help greenhouse and nursery growers optimize plant health practices in their operations and build their expertise.
