UF/IFAS Mid-Florida Research and Education Center (MREC) environmental horticulture doctoral student Yuvraj Khamare was recently awarded the 2021-2022 Spring Meadow – Proven Winners Scholarship by the Horticulture Research Institute.

As part of his scholarship, Khamare had a chance to travel to Michigan to visit Spring Meadows Nursery as well as the Dale Deppe Trail Garden.

The Spring Meadow – Proven Winners Scholarship was created in 1999 by Dale and Liz Deppe for “bright, well-trained, and qualified” students in the horticulture industry.

“Visiting Spring Meadows was wonderful, we had a full day of learning about different areas of the nursery with detailed tours into their propagation, growing, research, development and stocking areas of the nursery,” Khamare said. “The nursery visit was like a visit to the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory.”
