Sunshine State Suds: MREC Researcher Interviewed

Last Updated on November 9, 2017 by Caroline Warwick

Research continues to be done about hops production in Florida and its future in our state economy. In 2014, the craft brewery industry had an indirect and direct economic impact of $432 million in the Sunshine State, according to a University of Florida study.

Florida Crossroads, a FLORIDA Channel show sponsored by the state government, recently did a segment about breweries throughout Florida, the beer production process, key players involved, and hops research.

Dr. Brian Pearson, a Mid-Florida Research and Education Center assistant professor, explained how his personal interest in home brewing stems into his hops research and how we can keep hops happy so we can grow this crop right here in Florida.

Dr. Pearson speaks at about the 17:00 minute mark to 19:00.
