I understand there’s a myth circulating that Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) means a ‘plant it and forget it’ landscape or one that looks wild and untamed. This is not the image we want anyone to paint of a Florida-Friendly landscape. FFL is attractive, low-maintenance landscapes that protect our natural resources by conserving water, reducing pollution and waste, creating wildlife habitat and preventing soil erosion. Implementing FFL practices saves you time, money and energy.

Nine Principles of FFL

Florida-Friendly Landscaping consists of nine principles:

  1. Right Plant, Right Place.
  2. Water Efficiently.
  3. Fertilize Appropriately.
  4. Mulch.
  5. Attract Wildlife.
  6. Manage Yard Pests Responsibly.
  7. Recycle Yard Waste
  8. Reduce Stormwater Runoff.
  9. Protect the Waterfront.
