“Levy County 4-H Under the Big Top!”

Welcome to the… Levy County 4-H!

The start of each new school year also indicates the start of a new 4-H year. The excitement in the air is tangible during these months as state 4-H professionals prepare to welcome new and returning members to their 4-H programs!

Holding an annual open house is one of the best ways to market the 4-H program and bring in new members from the community. Attendees at the 2nd annual “Levy County 4-H Under the Big Top!” received information about community 4-H clubs, events, and activities offered within the county, project areas, and State 4-H events. The goal of the annual open house is to provide potential members an insight into the wonderful world of 4-H and specifically 4-H within Levy County. What a success the event ended up being!

This year, 90% of Levy County’s active 4-H clubs provided activities for attendees to explore the many different areas of 4-H. Representatives from the rabbit, poultry, cavy, dog, and horse project shared their knowledge with attendees through live demonstrations. Clubs brought hands-on games and STEAM activities that included slime making, planting seeds, crafting, and much more! This event saw a 25% increase in attendance from last year. This is extremely exciting and promising as the Levy County 4-H Program is in a season of growth after the dormancy experienced during the COVID-19 period.

What is 4-H?

4-H is America’s largest youth development program that reaches about 6 million youth. Youth ages 5 to 18 learn important life skills through completing projects with the guidance of adult volunteers. Members attend 4-H club meetings in the community club, in-school club, or special interest club (SPIN club) setting.  Levy County 4-H strives to follow the mission and vision of Florida 4-H.
