Regenerative Grazing in the FL Panhandle; Register Today!

In the ag world the term regenerative garners a lot of attention these days; but what does it really mean? While a specific definition for regenerative remains elusive, there seems to be some general consensus that it all boils down to the implementation of production practices which together and over time improve the health, sustainability, and resiliency of the entire system. Unfortunately, beyond this very broad concept there is very little consensus regarding the specific details – everyone seems to have their own ideas about which practices are the most important and there is no shortage of opinions flying around about how you should be doing things.

To help cut through some of the clutter of excess opinion and enable local livestock producers to make better informed pasture management decisions UF/IFAS Extension Washington County is hosting a two-part educational series – A Practical Approach to Regenerative Grazing in the Florida Panhandle. The goal of this series is to inform, not persuade. Many of the underlying principles on which most regenerative grazing practices are based will be presented and their implementation under local conditions will be discussed. Principles and practices will be discussed in terms of their relation to the plant, animal, and human components of a grazing system. With the practical but always science-based information provided, livestock producers will be in better position to decide which regenerative practices they should implement.

The first session of the series will be held on Thursday, September 24th and the second will be on Thursday, October 1st. Both sessions will be held at the Washington County Agricultural Center (1424 Jackson Ave. Chipley, FL). They will begin at 5:45 pm (central time) with a catered meal and conclude at 7:30pm. There are a limited number of seats available for the event and preregistration is required. A $40 registration fee covers meals and printed materials for both sessions. If you only want to attend one session, the registration fee is $25 per session. Please use the link below to register by the Monday of the week of the first session you want to attend. It is highly recommended that you attend both sessions; the information covered will be different each session. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mark Mauldin at the Washington County Extension Office (850-638-6180 or mdm83@ufl.edu)
