Jefferson County Successful VITA Tax Preparation Season

Taxes

Tax season can be a very difficult time of year for many people. It is a time when good record keeping is very vital. Also the high preparation fee to be too much for some families to handle. Some use computer software to avoid the fees. In doing some they may overlook some tax deductions.

Free tax preparation has always been offered at the Jefferson County Extension office in Monticello. This year the Tallahassee United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) personnel with the assistance of Jefferson County Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent prepared taxes free at the Jefferson County R.J. Bailer Public Library. Several dates were reserved for appointments through the library.

A total of 312 Jefferson county residents were helped. United Way estimated that a total of $85,176 in tax preparation fees were saved. Providing this free service to Jefferson county citizens was a great benefit.
