Fresh produce safety begins on the farm. Commercial fruit and vegetable growers are encouraged to attend the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 8:15 am – 5:00 pm CST at the UF/IFAS Jackson County Extension Office (2741 Penn Ave, Marianna, FL). This one-day training provides growers with knowledge and resources needed to implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and better understand the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.

Developed through the PSA in collaboration with the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and land-grant universities, this training serves as one way for covered farms to meet the FSMA Produce Safety Rule training requirement. Participants will receive instruction on worker health and hygiene, soil amendments, agricultural water, wildlife and land use, postharvest handling and sanitation, and developing a farm food safety plan. These science-based practices help reduce the risk of microbial contamination while supporting consumer confidence and market access.

Upon successful completion of the full course, attendees will be eligible to receive an official certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO). Registration costs for this training is $40. Registration includes all training materials, lunch, refreshments, and certificate of attendance. Seating is limited and advance registration is required.
