2025 Jackson County Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program

Do you like to learn about plants, insects, and gardening? Do you like working with people? Do you have time to volunteer for UF/IFAS Extension? Are you willing to participate in an intensive 12-week training program? Then the Master Gardener Volunteer Program may be the right fit for you!

The Florida Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a program of the University of Florida and is operated through UF/IFAS Extension offices. Volunteers work with the Horticulture Agent to educate homeowners on residential gardening and landscaping topics. Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs) work with the public of all ages to answer questions and provide research-based knowledge through one-on-one consultations, workshops, 4-H youth activities, and more.

No gardening experience is required! You just need an interest in horticulture, enjoy working with people, and have basic computer skills, a willingness to communicate with the public, and time to volunteer with UF/IFAS Extension.

The volunteer training program is a 12-week training program that is held every Wednesday from February 5 through April 23 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at the UF/IFAS Jackson County Extension Office (2741 Penn Ave, Marianna, FL). Following the training, volunteer interns are expected to earn 75 UF/IFAS volunteer hours in their first year and 35 hours with 10 continuing education credits the second year to maintain their Master Gardener Volunteer certification.
