Jackson County 4-H Members Compete at 4-H Chick Show and Auction
Congratulations to our Jackson 4-H Chick Chain Show Participants, Nathan and Dylan Ziglar and Myra and Beau Miles! These four youth participated in the first Florida 4-H Chick Chain Show and Auction on Saturday, October 21, 2016. This was the culminating event of the first Florida 4-H Chick Chain Project that was launched in May of this year. Each youth chose 12 day-old chicks from several breeds, to raise for show. 4-H member Myra Miles participated in the pilot 4-H Chick Chain Project in 2015 when Florida 4-H partnered with Alabama 4-H. As a result, Myra was able to show birds from her first project as mature production birds. Youth are allowed to partner with others to share the 12 new chicks they received in 2016. Youth complete record books and show a pen of three birds of the same breed. The youth are judged on showmanship in addition to having their birds judged and have the option of auctioning their birds after the show.
