Enroll Now in Jackson 4-H Summer Camps

It’s time to enroll! The Jackson County 4-H Youth Development Program is in full swing and offering many exciting opportunities for youth this summer. Registration is open now. Residential Camp Timpoochee is at capacity but we are taking names for a waiting list.

All day camps will be held at the Jackson County Ag Complex at 2741 Penn Avenue, Marianna, FL. Deadline for registrations to be turned in to the Extension Office is June 10, 2016.

Day Camps fill up quickly, and are first-come, first serve basis. 4-H Enrollment & Day Camp Registration Forms are required. Payment must be included. Incomplete registrations will not be accepted and will not hold a spot for day camps.

Summer SunFlorida 4-H Tailgate Grilling (2 whole days)

Date: June 28-29, 2016

Time: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Cost: $30.00

Ages: 10 to 18 years

Campers will learn personal safety while grilling, and how to prevent food borne illnesses. A contest will be held to determine which individual prepared the tastiest BBQ. Winning individual(s) will be eligible to move on to the *District II grilling competition. All items for grilling, as well as lunches, will be provided.

*District II competitors will receive a cooking thermometer and a $25 voucher from Winn-Dixie Supermarkets to purchase ingredients for the contest. After the competition, all participants will receive a $15 gift certificate to eat at a Sonny’s BBQ location. For each protein category- First place = $500 cash award; Second place = $300 cash award and an invitation to compete against the two high placing individuals at the State Championship Contest, that will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 (UF/UK Game) @ the Straughn IFAS Extension Professional Development Center University of Florida Campus, Gainesville, Florida. Prizes for state winners: 1st place- $1,500 college scholarship- 2nd place- $1,000- for all four proteins.


Junk Drawer Robotics (3 whole days) – Limit of 12 Participants

Date: July 5-7, 2016

Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Cost: $80.00

Ages: 8 to 12 years

Learn how to make robots out of everyday household products. The last day of camp will be held in Tallahassee at the North Florida Fairgrounds for a competition with surrounding counties. Days 1 & 2, participants need to bring a sack lunch. Lunch will be provided on Day 3.

Painting with a 4-H Twist (1/2 day)

Date: August 2, 2016

Time: 1:00 – 3:30 PM

Cost: $25.00

Ages: 8 to 18 years

Join us for an afternoon of creativity and camaraderie as you are given step-by-step instructions toward creating your own masterpiece. All art supplies, snacks and drinks will be provided.

Sew Much Fun (2 – ½ days)

Date: August 3-4, 2016

Time: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Cost: $30.00

Ages: 8 – 18 years

This camp is designed for novices with no experience sewing. All materials, snacks and drinks are provided. At the conclusion of the day camp, participants will have the chance to win a new sewing machine.
