Jackson County 4-H Member, Trey Smith to Compete at 2015 Regional 4-H Horse Championships

Please join Jackson County 4-H in congratulating Trey Smith, who is a member of the Jackson County 4-H Buckaroos Horse Club, for qualifying at the 2015 State 4-H Horse Show to compete in the pole bending and barrel racing events at the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships. Regionals are being held in Perry, Georgia on July 29 to August 2, 2015.

In order to qualify for Regionals, Trey had to be one of the 60 highest point scoring seniors during the 2015 State 4-H Horse Show held in Tampa earlier this month.

Trey is 17 years old and is the son of James and Genera Shepard. Trey has worked very hard to make it this far. When asked about the experience, Trey had this to say: “In the past five years and I have been to state and regionals three times. I have enjoyed meeting new people from other counties and I enjoy the competition from all the other riders that have competed against me. I’m very grateful to be able to say I’m going to regionals for a third time. I have so much support and appreciate everyone’s willingness to help. I would not have been able to get this far if it weren’t for my club leader Mrs. Katricia Edenfield, support from the County and my 4-H Agent, Mrs. Angel Granger and from my friends and family. I want to thank my family for supporting me and giving me this opportunity, and most of all I would like to thank James Harrell for giving me the opportunity to own this amazing horse. I also want to thank Karen Mercer, Michelle Stone, Mike Mercer, Terry Harris, Mac Edenfield, and especially my grandparents James and Genera Shepherd. Without these people in my life, I would not be the person that I am. I also want to thank God for giving me this opportunity, as he is my leader. I ride in memory of my Daddy, the late Terry Smith who passed away when I was three, and my late Uncle David Maybardy. I know they’re in heaven right now watching over me and giving me their love and support. Thank you Jackson County for your support of the sport that I enjoy doing and for helping us start up our 4-H Club. I thank you all for your prayers.”
