4-H Camp Timpoochee – Summer Blast!

Jackson County 4-H youth attended 4-H Camp Timpoochee during the week of June 22-26, along with 4-H youth from Liberty and Calhoun Counties. Attendees, both returning and new, enjoyed a week of summer fun and educational activities. Even though the weather did not always cooperate, the youth participated in kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, marine explorations, primitive shooting sports, etymology, soap making, survival bracelet making, a talent show, and so much more! Youth were also treated to fresh corn that they shucked and then roasted on the fire, and fresh watermelons. They traveled to Henderson Beach for some fun beach activities, that were unfortunately cut short due to inclement weather, but were then able to spend a little extra time getting ready for the camp dance which is the culminating activity for the week!

100% of the youth campers reported that, as a result of attending camp, that they had made new friends during their week at camp, that they feel more confident in making good decisions, they feel more confident in working in groups or teams, they feel more confident in their ability to be independent and take care of themselves, and are now more interested in exploring a career in a STEM related field. 100% of the counselors and counselors-in-training(CIT) reported that, as a result of attending camp, that they were able to demonstrate their role as a counselor or CIT, that they accepted their responsibilities at 4-H camp, that they were able to explain camp rules and policies and their importance at camp, that they applied skills learned in counselor training at camp, that they were able to solve conflicts if they arose among campers confidently, and they were able to analyze situations to keep campers safe and secure.

Many thanks to our awesome volunteers Mrs. Anita Crossley, Mr. Lamar Clark and our 4-H Program Assistant Mrs. Patti Peacock for helping to make this week a success!
