Jackson County 4-H Poultry Judging Teams Compete at State

Jackson County 4-H Livestock Club members competed in the 2015 State 4-H Poultry Judging Contest, thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of their club leader and coach Mrs. Stacey Warden, along with some help from a former Jackson County 4-H coach, Mrs. Sheila Andreason.

In just a few weeks’ time, 14 members of the Jackson County 4-H Livestock Club practiced and fielded teams in the Junior/Intermediate Division and a Senior team at the 2015 State 4-H Poultry Judging Contest in Gainesville on Friday, June 5. A total 28 youth competed in the senior division and 59 youth competed in the junior/intermediate division, from across the state. Jackson 4-H Junior/Intermediate Team One placed 3rd overall and was comprised of Hayden Warden (5th High Individual), Emma Caraway (14th High Individual), Caitlin Caudill (18th High Individual) and Anslie Yoder. Jackson 4-H Junior/Intermediate Team Two placed 8th overall and was comprised of Lila Caraway, Whitnie Yoder, Reagan Roach, and Benjamin Roach. This was the youngest combined team at the competition!

Jackson County 4-H Agent Angel Granger stated, “I know I speak on behalf of the club members and the club leaders when I tell you that 4-H is alive and well in Jackson County and there are great things to come. The hard work and dedication of the youth, parents and volunteers serves as a shining example of what a group of people can do when they put their mind to it. But we still have a lot to do and we need the support of the community to make these kinds of opportunities available. It costs hundreds of dollars to take teams to even one competition. When you factor in food, lodging, van rental, fuel and entry fees, it completely wipes out months of fundraising efforts. Every little bit helps and I can assure you it is put to good use. Seeing the smiles on these kids’ faces and seeing them develop a sense of confidence is priceless!”
