2023 4-H Area South Horse Show

The Florida 4-H Horse Program – Area South

The Florida 4-H Horse Program hosts Area Horse Shows for different regions in Florida (North, South, East, and West). The Area South horse show is composed of 18 Southern Florida counties: Broward, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Lee, Manatee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Sarasota, St Lucie, and the Seminole Tribe. The Area South horse show is an event for 4-H members in the southern region of Florida to get together and compete in Hunter, Dressage, Western, Ranch, and Speed divisions with the chance to proceed to the State horse show in Tampa.

The 2023 Area South horse show had 47 participants come together and compete in Okeechobee, FL at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center on Saturday and Sunday, April 15th, and 16th. With the help of many volunteers and 4-H extension agents, the event was a success! As some of you may know, organizing and running a horse show is no easy task and takes many hands to make it happen.

The Weekend of the Area South Horse Show

On Saturday, April 15th the show began bright and early at 9:00 A.M. with the Hunter Division. The first day consisted of Hunter/English Dressage, Western Dressage, Western, and Ranch divisions. On Sunday April 16th, the last day of the Area South horse show, was the speed division. This event is a great opportunity for 4-H members from various south Florida counties to get together and do what they love.

Indian River County 4-H had six 4-H members participate in the Area South horse show and all six have qualified for the Florida 4-H State Horse Show in Tampa, FL! The State Horse Show is July 12-15, 2023 at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. Below are the results for the six participants from Indian River County 4-H.
