Administrative Assistant II

Biological Scientist II

The Department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida is a team of 200 faculty and staff located across Florida, dedicated to improving fruit and vegetable production for the benefit of Florida farmers and consumers. We conduct innovative research in plant breeding & genetics, plant and environmental physiology, fruit & vegetable production, postharvest physiology, biochemistry, and other disciplines. Our diverse faculty and staff integrate the land-grant mission of research, teaching, and Extension programs to provide practical experience for our students, technical support for farmers, relevance for the horticulture industry, and a pipeline to bring leading research from our labs to the public.

The Communications Specialist leads all communications for the department, including the Crop Transformation Center (CTC). This position is responsible for the digital and print communications strategy, implementation, and evaluation of communication impact. They will work with UF/IFAS (Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences) Communications to source stories, collaborate on media coverage, and develop graphic design projects. The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating and executing a communications strategy, translating department-created content for the public, branding, and raising awareness of our people, research, teaching, and Extension efforts to the public.

Isolate and resolve highly complex IT ticket requests submitted via the UF/IFAS ticket system for operating system and application software; offer videoconferencing and on-line teaching support; generate and maintain IT service records and SOPs; upon request, train faculty, staff members, and graduate students on the use of fundamental programs and/or new tech hardware. Purchase, maintain and manage a/v equipment in conference room. Provide preventive actions and solutions to recurring IT issues. This is a team-based customer service position; the possession of and propensity to use interpersonal communication skills to appropriately and effectively communicate and interact with colleagues and teammates is required. A willingness to take ownership of tickets to balance the team’s workload is expected. The ability to accurately assess a client’s familiarity with IT-related topics and adapt the approach, response, and/or instructions is critical. Farm Operations Technical Manager

The incumbent will work with faculty and staff to transform the farm facilities at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (GCREC) into an innovation hub focused on pioneering the future of agriculture through the development and adoption of advanced technologies, including AI and robotics, for horticultural crops and ornamental production. The incumbent will develop a team approach to coordinate and direct agronomic activities vital to the success of the research and education mission of the center. Responsibilities include coordinating field activities with faculty programs; training and supervising farm staff; developing and adhering to an operational farm budget; procuring necessary supplies and equipment; preserving operational records, GPS systems, and other computer-based systems; and stewardship of assigned farm facilities and equipment. Farm Supervisor

The Department of Animal Sciences’ Equine Science Center is seeking at Farm Supervisor. This position will serve directly under and report to the Academic Programs Specialist/Farm Manager. The Farm Supervisor will be responsible for assisting the Farm Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Equine Sciences Center and Horse Teaching Unit and working directly with the farm crews. This individual will be key in decision making when the Farm Manager is unavailable. Both the manager and supervisor will work closely together to plan improvement projects and help both units support the teaching, research and extension functions of the department. The Farm Supervisor will have a general understanding of the farm budget to help monitor farm expenditures on a weekly basis. Project Manager II

Research Coordinator II

The University of Florida (UF) is the Management Entity (ME) for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems (LSIL). Innovation Labs are USAID-funded long-term, multi-disciplinary, applied research and capacity-building projects that conduct research for development to address poverty and malnutrition in Feed the Future countries. The Livestock Systems Innovation Lab program works globally: East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda), West Africa (Burkina Faso and Niger), Asia (Nepal), and Haiti.

LSIL coordinates a variety of monitoring and evaluation processes including producing and maintaining activity compliance documents, reporting activities to the donor, and conducting studies of project impacts. The Research Coordinator II will coordinate with Project Investigators from around the world and will work with LSIL’s Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist to support these activities. This position will serve as a liaison with Project Investigators to ensure that final project datasets produced by the funded projects are correctly formatted and shared for open access as per USAID requirements. Additionally, this position will communicate with Project Investigators to ensure timely reporting processes, accuracy of activity data reported by funded projects, and will support activities related to program evaluation studies.
