The Director of Research Administration is responsible for providing service, outreach, and training to the IFAS sponsored program community which includes research, extension, and instruction, collaborating with units and core offices, and external sponsors, and overseeing the post-award enterprise.

This position supports the overall IFAS mission, vision and values through interaction and collaboration with senior leadership, department chairpersons, unit leaders, faculty, research administrators, and core offices. The successful candidate for this role will be a self-directed, creative thinker who is able to strategically plan, build consensus, and problem solve to move IFAS Sponsored Programs forward.

The Director works strategically with internal and external stakeholders, and the University to ensure the streamlined management of the IFAS’ sponsored program activities. The position is responsible for managing staff and reports to the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration.

 

Agricultural Assistant I

Farm Supervisor

The Department of Animal Sciences’ Equine Science Center is seeking at Farm Supervisor. This position will serve directly under and report to the Academic Programs Specialist/Farm Manager. The Farm Supervisor will be responsible for assisting the Farm Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Equine Sciences Center and Horse Teaching Unit and working directly with the farm crews. This individual will be key in decision making when the Farm Manager is unavailable. The Farm Supervisor will have a general understanding of the farm budget to help monitor farm expenditures on a weekly basis. It is expected that this individual will have a strong background in equine reproduction and will participate with the CVM and the Farm Manager to ensure that the breeding program is optimized.

This full-time Biological Scientist II (TEAMS) position is located in the Agronomy Department in Gainesville, Florida. This position is one related to weed science in various settings, and it is intended to facilitate a variety of field, greenhouse and laboratory research and extension activities in the Weed Science program.

Working under general supervision, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for the conductance of field, greenhouse, and laboratory research, including but not limited to its design, preparation, maintenance, treatments application, plant and/or soil material samples collection and preparation for analysis or shipping, collection of scientific data (including subjective visual and objective using research instruments), data entry and research records maintenance, research projects coordination, communication with research cooperators, and for compiling research upon project completion.

Other responsibilities include but may not be limited to overseeing and performing maintenance of laboratories, field and research equipment and instruments, including their calibration and repair (or coordination of such) if needed, inventory maintenance, supplies purchasing. The incumbent might be also involved in students and/or OPS employees training in experimental techniques, assistance in their research, oversight of various activities.
Required skillset includes but is not limited to the capacity of conducting demanding physical activities (including working outdoors in the field environment), exceptional organization, time management and attention to details, creativity and problem solving. The incumbent is expected to be willing to work with pesticides on a daily basis and will be required to take and pass a pesticide applicator license.
