Venomous and Beneficial Snakes Infographics

UF/IFAS Extension Manatee County first came to ICS requesting an infographic to illustrate how to identify a venomous snake and common types that dwell in Southwest Florida. This infographic would be used by the public as a tool to become more familiar with venomous snake characteristics in order to identify and/or report them. The county found much success in this infographic and requested a second infographic about beneficial snakes in Florida.

The beneficial version illustrates the most common non-venomous snakes in Manatee county and how they benefit their environment. While designing these infographics, the main challenge was illustrating the snakes so that they were realistic enough for the general public to recognize, but still consistent with the rest of the design. To achieve this, the illustrator first drew the snakes on paper using several photos as reference, then brought the drawings into Adobe Illustrator and used them to create the final design. Different coloring and generalized shaping was used for the characteristics on each snake and a more simple background was created so that the snakes would stand out.
