2013 Lawn and Garden Fest

The UF/IFAS spring lawn-care event Lawn and Garden Fest took place March 29, 2014 and needed a strong visual identity, for two reasons: First, the event was taking place on a Saturday morning and residents were likely to have many other options for outdoor activities; second, there was a commercial home and lawn expo taking place on campus March 15-16 and we wanted to make sure residents didn’t confuse the two.

Both of those concerns made it important that we grab the public’s attention, by having a distinctive, memorable “look” for our newspaper ads, flyers, promotional e-mails, and also for materials used at the event itself – signage, brochures, etc.

Our graphic designer came up with a fun, outdoorsy theme that featured illustrated flowers in shades of yellow, orange, pink and fuchsia, placed on a green and blue background with generous white space in the center, to emphasize the text and create a sense of lightness. The overall effect suggested a bright spring morning, which is exactly the type of weather we hoped to have for the event – unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate there, and we got torrential rain instead.
